Rodeos are a classic tradition in the American west and a subject uniquely suited to black and white photography. This image was captured as part of a series on cowboy life in the American west at the annual 4th of July rodeo in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. To create the abstract blur effect, I used a slow shutter speed and moved the camera with the subject to keep the horse just enough in focus to maintain its shape while capturing its speed.
