During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I looked for a new outlet for my photography that went back to the analog roots. I found the answer in large format 4x5 film cameras, a tool made famous by the likes of Ansel Adams and the original tool used to make so many of the iconic black and white photographs of the American West.
Since then, I’ve continued to improve my process through various antique lenses, modern replicas of the vintage cameras, and testing various printing techniques. I eventually settled on a unique printing process that includes the original film border on prints mounted on acrylic glass. Each final piece has its own character and sense of place - a feeling that still just cannot be found in digital prints.
My current work focuses on the iconic landscapes and symbols of the American West in the Out West series, an ongoing body of work that spans iconic national parks such as Yellowstone and Grand Teton to gems found in hidden corners of Colorado.
Analog 2.0
After capturing images on traditional large format film cameras, I work with a specialized film lab to develop and produce extremely high resolution scans used for final printing. All prints are part of signed, limited edition sets available in multiple sizes and formats. In addition to acrylic glass, prints are available framed or as museum-quality prints on Hahnemuhle fine-art paper.
Prints are available in three formats - printed & framed, mounted on acrylic, or as unframed prints. Acrylic mounted prints include the original film border of the negative, and print-only orders have the option of including the original film border. Framed prints do not include the film border to maximize the impact of the matte and frame. Framed and acrylic samples can be found below.
